How To Change Battery In 2014 Chevy Cruze Key Fob

October 2022 · 2 minute read

The very first step is to remove the flip outside or “switchblade” type steel ignition key by pushing the circular chrome button in the upper left of the fob. Then slide your thumb into the groove in which the ignition key used to sit and firmly take off of the rectangle battery cover here on the rear side of the fob. Flip and cover the key fob and then let the old battery fall off its socket. If the battery won’t come out, try lightly tapping its fob on your work area or carefully pull out another battery with a tiny flathead screwdriver.

Make sure that now the back cover is flat with a key fob at every edge. Rotate the flip-down ignition key back into the slot just on side of the fob. Stand close to your Cruze and test a new key fob battery either pushing the “Lock” & “Unlock” button. If the battery is functioning correctly, you should see parking lights flash & hear the doors locking & unlocking. If you have a newer Chevrolet key fob, that is used for cars with Remote Keyless Entry, then follow these instructions to replace the battery:

Press the front chrome button to detach and take out the metal key. Open its key fob split two pieces and remove both circuit board buttons. When the batter is exposed, delete the existing battery using a tiny flathead screwdriver. Replace any components of both the key fob, as well as you’re good to go!

One of the most popular Chevrolet remote controls to date, this was used on vehicles including the Suburban, Sierra, Traverse, Ranger, and others. Take the following actions. To unlock the key fob, insert a flathead screwdriver into the tiny hole on the side of the device and twist to release the lock. Remove the existing battery and replace it with a new CR2032 button cell battery, being sure to put the positive side on the positive terminal. Once you get the key fob back connected, you should be good to go.
