This formula shows the relationship between increasing the amount of catalyst and increasing the cure time:
t = 0.25*x^2 + 0.5 * x + 16
Where: “t” is the total time it takes for a specific amount of resin to fully cure, and “x” refers to the % of catalyzed resin used in your mixture. For example, if you have a resin mixture that is 100% catalyzed, using the formula above gives us a total cure time of 16 hours.
What kind of catalyst was used?
The harder the cure, the longer it takes. So, to determine how long a resin will take to cure when it’s been catalyzed with a particular hardener, use this formula:
t = 0.069*x^3 + 0.33 * x^2 + 1.5 * x + 16
Where: “t” is the total time it takes for a specific amount of resin to fully cure. The “x” refers to the % of hardener used in your mixture. For example, let’s say that you have an epoxy resin that has been catalyzed by an equal 50/50 mixture of MEKP and DETA. According to the above formula, it’ll take roughly 18 hours for 100% of your resin to cure.
