Because it can lighten the color of the wood, oxalic acid, a typical wood deck cleaner, is also known as a wood brightener or whitener. It could be used to remove fungal or tannin stains. Wipe away the black patches after applying them to the wood and allowing it to sit for a few minutes. When the stains are gone, wipe the deck.

Brownish gray patches created by tannin or mold could be removed with detergent. Put a few drops of dish detergent in the water till it becomes sudsy. Scrub the black areas with a stiff-bristled brush soaked in soapy water until they are gone. Allow the wooden deck to fully dry after rinsing it with clear water.

Bleach is among the most effective ways to dispose of dark mold or mildew off the hardwood decking. Mold and mildew thrive in damp wood that is not even allowed to dry properly. 4.5 liters of water plus 1 cup of bleach.  

Another superb method is trisodium phosphate, which is a powder that when mixed with water creates a cleaning solution that cleans wood rapidly and without actually damaging it. It isn’t as effective as oxalic acid, and it won’t brighten the wood. To use, add 8 to 10 tsp of TSP, 1 cup bleach, and one gallon of water. Wash the area with water after brushing the solution into the spots.
