Frogs are extremely adaptable even with their delicate appearance. Amphibians come with a range of strategies to cope with various environments. Hibernation/estivation is one of the most commonly used reactions to cold winter temperatures.
Pacman Frogs have their own living areas which are known as hibernaculum which is a kind of protective layer. They cover themselves in order to safeguard themselves from cold winter months as their metabolism slows down and they are able to sleep the winter to sleep.
The first signs of spring are that the temperature rises, and the frog awakes to leave the hard-outer cover and continues with feeding and breeding.
Hibernation isn’t necessary for captivity, as your frog won’t need to endure the winter cold temperatures in their enclosure. All Pacman Frogs that are less than a year old shouldn’t be allowed to go into hibernation.
