Step 1

Take the Stratus upwards onto the ramp for cars and place your vehicle in the parking. Be sure to activate the parking brake, as well.

Step 2

Remove the vehicle’s hood, and look for the alternator. The part is constructed from vented aluminum and connected to the belt assembly of the alternator in front of the transmission and motor. Take off the bolt for electrical connection located on the side of the motor by using a 12mm socket wrench.

Step 3

As you climb under the vehicle, look for the swing pulley on the base part of the alternator belt. The pulley you see is smaller than other pulleys and is at the other side of a joint. Take off the bolt that secures the swing pulley with a 14-mm socket wrench. The pulley should be removed from its mount. The belt should come loose.

Step 4

Remove the alternator belt from the drive shaft for the alternator. Take off the four bolts that are mounted along the edges of the alternator with the 12-mm socket wrench. The alternator should be removed from its case and then take from inside the compartment for engines.

Step 5

Place the new alternator in its place, and secure it with the four bolts that mount it by using a 12-mm socket wrench.

Step 6

The alternator belt should be slid over the drive shaft of the new alternator. Then climb under the vehicle. Connect the alternator belt to the swing pulley. Slide back onto the shaft of mounting. Fix it by using the bolt that mounts it.

Replace the electrical connection at one side of the motor. Then tighten it using a 12mm socket.
