There’s a reason why they are called fruit bats, and this has a lot to do with the fact that they like to eat fruits. Fruit bats eat fruit, orchids, bananas, strawberries, apples, tomatoes, blueberries, berries, cherries, mulberries, passionfruit, mangoes, jackfruit, mandarins, pineapple, pomegranate, coconuts, oranges, avocado, grapes, and lemons.
Insects and Animals
In addition to eating fruits, fruit bats can eat insects, bugs, mosquitoes, meat, fish, rats, birds, worms, wasps, crickets, grasshoppers, lizards, termites, and more. Fruits are capable of eating insects, but they mainly eat fruits, which is why they are called fruit bats. Additionally, fruit bats eat shrubs, seeds, pumpkins, plants, olives, figs, bamboo, blood, citrus, moths, and more.
Due to their good vision, fruit bats can see very well at night, so they do eat a night. Fruits will eat nectar and pollen and whatever else they can during the night.
When fruit bats are in the rainforest, they will primarily eat fruits, nectar, and some insects that they come across. It’s also interesting to know that, fruit bats are able to eat upside down. Even when they are eating anything at all, they will spend some upside down.
In the winter, there will be less insects for fruit bats to eat, however, that doesn’t mean that they don’t eat. Fruit flies don’t hibernate in the winter; they sleep the same way humans do; they can also be active at night, which is when they will go looking for food.
