Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing AroundA Cabela’s-branded binocular manufactured by Vortex Intrepid HD, Intrepid HD. Intrepid HD got off to an unsteady beginning in our test, with a low ergonomics score due to a slightly slick surface, an awkwardness, and a focuser that wasn’t terribly rough, but it wasn’t smooth either.
If you didn’t know, Bass Pro Shops acquired Cabela’s at the close of the year. Prior to the acquisition Cabela’s was traded publicly as well as an investment firm owned by private investors was acquiring a significant portion of the stock. But, due to a decline in sales and the loss of market share to rivals like Bass Pro Shops, Field & Stream as well as Gander Mountain, the investment firm was forced by Cabela’s to either close its doors or go into bankruptcy.
Since Cabela’s has its own success in business as well as an existing, large customers base Bass Pro opted to keep Cabela’s brand intact and continue operating it as a distinct business with Bass Pro ownership.
While this information isn’t particularly relevant to Cabela’s range of scopes, it will come to the fore when I go over Cabela’s guarantee below.
The range was Cabela’s entry-level offering for a scope that was branded, and the quality of the optics was comparable to what you’d think of for a basic scope within this price range.
These scopes were sold in five models:
- Standard
- Compact
- Versions of 30mm
- Range finding models.
All models that had an adjustable power limit included an objective that could be adjusted. Reticle options were mainly duplex, however, some of the 6.5-20 models were also offered with a mil-dot option as well as a target dot variant.
The Outfitter series was a good choice of glass at a reasonable price (at the time) and was manufactured in Japan. They are believed to have been made in the same factory that Bushnell used for its Elite series, as the Outfitter scopes appear like, feel, and function exactly like a Bushnell Elite 3200 scope.
