BMW X5 owners who do not want to use the remote key fob to open their trunk can manually open it. If you have lost your remotes or do not want them to work, follow the steps below. First, unlock your BMW with a key and press the release button on the driver-side door jam near the bottom of your window.

Lift the trunk covers in the rear hatch and press in on the trunk lid release plunger located directly under it.
You can now open your X5 truck manually.

Please note that if you lock your car with a spare key also, you will not be able to open your trunk at all, since no mechanical key will be able to open it.

You will need to unlock the car with your key first, wait for the trunk lid to fully open, and then close it again before you can continue. You should just be able to press your remote’s button at this point and drive away without opening your door.

Why do you need to open your BMWx5 trunk manually?

Even if you do not want to ever use your remote again, there are times when opening your trunk manually will come in handy.
