The answer is yes, but it’s not as easy as just unlocking the car door with the key. In order to start your car without the key fob, you’ll need to use a process called “hot wiring.” This involves connecting two wires together in order to bypass the ignition switch and start the engine.
Before attempting to hot wire your car, be sure to read your owner’s manual. Each car is different, so there may be specific instructions on how to do this. You’ll also need some tools: a wire cutter and wire stripper, two alligator clips, and a screwdriver.
1. Check under the dash for any wiring that look like they go to the car’s starter. Most cars begin hot wiring by disconnecting these wires from their connectors, but consult your owner’s manual if you’re not sure where to find them.
2. Connect one of the alligator clips to each of the two wires you found in step 1. It doesn’t matter which color goes with which it only matters what order they are connected in when attached to each other. The purpose is just to a closed circuit between these two wires when the clips are attached.
3. Connect the other end of each alligator clip to a good ground source. This could be a metal part of the car like the fender, or you can use the screwdriver to connect them to a metal wire that’s running under the dash.
4. Start the car by turning the key in the ignition don’t start it, just turn it to “on”. Once it’s started, release the key and let it run.
5. Pull out the two alligator clips and put everything back where it was before. Now your car is running without the key fob
