Please be noted that: If you turn off center diff lock manually by pushing on/off button on console or if you put car in neutral, this will have no effect as long as car is still rolling forward with any speed from zero to about 20 km /h. It is only effective when car is stopped at zero speed with brake applied at all 4 wheels. However, if you want to keep it unlocked but prevent accidental lockup, you can set it to “P” (partial) mode.
To be retained in partial lockup, center differential should not see any speeds less than 20 km/h for longer time, which will satisfy lock up condition. For example, if it takes 1 minute to start car engine and leave parking lot at speed of 35km/h, then after that even if you keep braking or running on flat surface still locked, the system should retain this status.
The alternative way to do the same is to simply avoid using P button until center diff is locked again. For example: You are doing some fast off-roading or something so you switch off center diff. Nevertheless, later when your plan changes and now you want slight slip from center diff for on-road use, you do not want to go through the process of unlocking it again. So, in this case just turn off the car engine (turning off center diff will also do that). When you start the engine again, it will automatically be in “P” mode and ready for use without having to push any buttons.
