The catalytic converter is a vital part of your car’s emissions system. It helps to reduce harmful emissions from the engine, making your car more environmentally friendly. If your catalytic converter fails, it can cause a variety of problems with your car, including decreased performance and increased emissions.

Tools and Materials:
-Wrench
-Socket wrench
-Jack
-Lug wrench
-Replacement catalytic converter (if needed)
-Safety glasses
-Work gloves
1. Park your car on a level surface and set the emergency brake. Raise the car’s front end with a jack and secure it with lug wrench to prevent it from falling.
2. Locate your catalytic converter, which is part of your exhaust system. It resembles an upside down “U” in most cases with two pipes coming off each side about halfway down the car’s length on both sides. If you are having, trouble locating them use this method: look for where the exhaust pipe goes upward toward the rear of the car near the center/back section–this is usually where your catalytic converter is located
3. Disconnect or loosen any wires or lines that are connected to the converter itself by using a wrench.
4. Unbolt all bolts/screws that are holding the converter in place with a socket wrench.
5. Gently remove the catalytic converter and set it aside. If you are replacing it, put the new one in its place and bolt/screw it in securely.
6. Reconnect or tighten any wires or lines that were disconnected in step 3 and lower the car to the ground. Test your car by driving it on a level surface at various speeds to ensure that it is running properly.
