How to reset bmw 328i computer?

July 2023 · 3 minute read

There are a few different ways that you can reset your BMW 328i computer. One is to use the built-in reset procedure, and the other is to use a software reset tool.
The built-in reset procedure is easy to do, and all you need is a paper clip. First, turn off your car and pop the hood. Then, locate the small hole near the fuses that are labeled “OBD”. Use the paper clip to insert into this hole and hold it down for about five seconds. After you’ve done this, restart your car and see if the problem has been resolved.
If the built-in reset procedure doesn’t work, then you try using a software reset tool. This is a small piece of software that you can download and install on your computer. Once it’s installed, you connect your car to your computer using the OBDII cable. Then, open the software and click on the “reset” button. After the reset is complete, disconnect your car from your computer and restart it.
Hopefully one of these methods will help you reset your BMW 328i computer. If not, then you may need to take it to a mechanic for further assistance. Good luck!
Resetting a BMW 328i computer can be done in a few different ways. The most common way is to use the built-in reset procedure, which can be done with a paper clip. If this doesn’t work, then you can try using a software reset tool. The BMW does not use the term OBD2 for diagnostics and reset as other cars do. It uses different terminology. Some people refer to this system as OBCCI or EWSII.
The first step is to get to the OBD port by popping open your hood and locating it near the fuses box on either side of the car. Use a sharp object such as a paperclip to press in and hold for 5 seconds while powering up (engine off). After holding down for 5 seconds release and let your 328i sit idle until you see it turn off by itself followed shortly by re-starting again. Then drive around town checking for proper operation of the reset problem you were experiencing.
If this does not work, then your car may not be equipped with this as a reset function as there was also an update provided by BMW that prevents using the OBD port for any kind of hacking or software alterations without proper authorization and diagnostic equipment. But there is still another way to do it with a hardware device or scanner such as our VAG-COM 436:
