September 2022 · 3 minute read

I was recently questioned whether or not you should tip the transport guy that delivers your car.

Tipping or not tipping is not an often asked topic, but I felt I should address it here. I believe that for some of you, tipping your transport driver is automatic; nevertheless, for others, it is probable that you have considered it but have not been given the space or opportunity to inquire.

When I used to deliver cars, I sometimes received tips and occasionally did not. I seldom anticipated receiving them, but after a time, I learned that I would receive a tip from my customers when I performed specific tasks.

As a result, the selfish Gwendoline in me always attempted to do those same things to earn a tip. Who doesn’t enjoy a little extra cash? I am certain I did.

Before I disclose certain items for which you should automatically tip, I want to address something I’ve seen in a variety of different online groups.

Many individuals believe that drivers earn a good living. I’ve seen and read individuals say, “Drivers earn so much money shipping my vehicle. Why should I tip them?”

In certain instances, a corporate driver may earn more than an individual driver, but not always.

Therefore, please do not think of your $1500 payment to the carrier as “oh, he is making so much already,” because that $1500 could easily turn into -$300 if things do not go according to plan, and you and I both know that things do not always go according to plan, regardless of how hard we try to be perfect.

5 THINGS YOUR TRANSPORT DRIVER CAN DO TO EARN THEIR TIP

1- Deliver the car ahead of schedule

2- Deliver the car as clean as when it was shipped

3- Make an extra effort to contact you to ensure you will be available to receive your vehicle not once but also twice when he is within a few hours of you.

4. Being courteous, although you may believe this is normal, many drivers go through hell, and it reflects; some conceal it and go above and above to ensure your satisfaction with their service.

5- Attempted to approach as near as feasible to your front door

If any of those things are done by your car transport driver, they, in my view, deserve a gratuity. However, keep in mind that tipping is optional. It is not mandatory, nor is it frowned upon!
