Robins are capable of eating various kinds of fruits that they find on their own or that you feed them. Robins eat berries, blueberries, cranberries, cantaloupe, dried cranberries, elderberries, grapes, honeysuckle berries, and hawthorn berries. Robins also eat bananas, apples, nandina berries, juniper berries, mulberries, strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, and wild strawberries. These are some of the main fruits that robins like to feed on.
Worms
Worms play a role in the diet of robins on a daily basis. Robins can eat worms, mealworms, earthworms, dew worms, dead worms, grub worms, freeze dried mealworms, hornworms, jumping worms, live worms, and wax worms.
Eggs
Robins have been observed eating eggs, so they can and do eat eggs. Robins eat hummingbird eggs, blue jay eggs, bird eggs, unhatched eggs, finch eggs, egg shells, and robin eggs. If robins are stressed or even malnourished they will resort to eating eggs.
Insects
Robins love to feed on insects; eating insects is what robins do on a daily basis. Robins will eat flies, aphids, ants, dragon flies, earwigs, fireflies, grasshoppers, gypsy moth caterpillars, woodlice, and hornets. Robins also like to eat June bugs, Japanese beetles, wood bees, yellow jackets, lady bugs, and lightning bugs. Additionally, robins are known to eat bees, locusts, mosquitoes, moths, monarch caterpillars, nightcrawlers, wasps, wood ticks, praying mantis, rolly pollies, roaches, and pill bugs. Insects are a go to food option for red robins when they are hungry.
Vegetation
Robins like to incorporate plants, vegetables, and flowers into their diets. Robins eat corn, acorns, carrots, garden plants, flowers, leaves, mushrooms, dandelions, sunflowers, and marigolds. Other things that robins eat are kale, vegetable plants, raisins, and oak trees.
Seeds
Robins are quite fond of seeds. Robins like to eat bird seed, black oil sunflower seeds, chia seeds, flaxseed, grass seed, pumpkin seeds, garden seeds, nyjer seeds, thistle seed, and wild bird seed.
Animals
Robins will prey on smaller animals when they are able to. Robins eat birds, baby birds, baby bunnies, chipmunks, frogs, fish, lizards, minnows, snakes, squirrels, and tadpoles. Most robins do eat ticks, spiders, and snails.
Bread is not good for robins to eat because it’s not easy for them to digest. Robins love to eat almonds, cheese, cashews, grain, grubs, hazel nuts, walnuts, quinoa, and millet. Robins will eat at bird feeders mainly if they like what you are feeding them. Some robins do eat bird food, cat food, dog food, grape jelly, ham, jam, and rice krispies. Oats, oatmeal, peanuts, peanut butter, pecan, popcorn, porridge oats, and rolled oats are safe for robins to eat. It’s best tp not give robins raw hamburger to eat because it have bacteria that can kill them. Robins can eat their babies, sparrows, suet, potato bugs, lawn grubs, mice, dead birds, dates, and cracked corn. Robins can’t eat hawks or hummingbirds. They don’t eat ice cream, or rocks either.
