What is auc sensor on a bmw?

November 2022 · 2 minute read

If you’re a BMW owner, then you may have heard of the acronym “AUC.” This stands for air volume control, and is a sensor that’s responsible for measuring the amount of airflow into the engine. It’s an important component in ensuring that your engine is running optimally, and if it goes out, it can cause all sorts of problems.
Fortunately, if you do need to replace your AUC sensor, it’s not a difficult job. You can either take your car to a mechanic or do it yourself. If you decide to do it yourself, here’s a basic guide on how to do it:

1. Open the hood of your car and locate the AUC sensor. It will be near the top of the engine.

2. Unplug the wire harness on the AUC sensor by pressing down on the tab and pulling it out of the socket. On some BMWs, you will have to pull up on a clip first before pressing down on the tab. It’s important that you don’t just yank at the wires because they are fragile and could break if pulled too hard or bent too much.

3. Remove the AUC sensor from its mounting bracket by unscrewing bolts with a wrench, then remove the sensor from the car after it has been disconnected from the wiring harness. Be careful not to damage any other sensitive components when doing so, such as intake manifold brackets, wiring connections, or other sensors in close proximity.

4. Install new AUC sensor and tighten bolts securely to ensure proper sealing and tight fit.

5. Reconnect the wire harness by pressing down on the tab and inserting it into its socket. Make sure that the harness is fully seated in its socket before releasing it or you could cause damage to BMW wiring, which can be costly if ignored. Clip any clips you may have had to pull up on during step 2 to secure the wire harness in place. If necessary, take your car for a test drive after completing these steps to see if there are any problems with the air volume control sensor that need attention.

6. Good luck! And don’t forget: this job should only take you about an hour so long as you have everything ready and at hand before you begin.
