What You Need

When deciding to replace your Mazda CX-5 key battery, there are a few items that you will need. This includes a CR2025 battery or a similar one to put into the key fob, a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver or equivalent tool with a softer tip, and a clean space to place your key fob parts to ensure they don’t go missing during the process.

Step-By-Step Process

Press the small knob that is on the fob and pull on the auxiliary key until it comes out.

Use a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver to gently pry it open.

Take your tool and put it into the outer gap and slide it along the opening. Twist until you remove the cover.

Take out the battery cap as well as the battery. Ensure that the rubber ring is not detached or damaged. If it detaches, then you will have to reattach it before inserting the new battery.

Insert the new battery that you have and make sure that the positive pole is facing up. Take the battery cap and cover the battery.

Close up the cover. Insert back the auxiliary key.
