Baby chickadees are classified as omnivores because they eat insects and seeds for their survival. Baby chickadees love to eat bugs more than seeds and parent chickadees mainly feed them insects and bugs. When a young hatch in the nest, the baby chickadee remains in the nest for 16 days where both males and females feed him.

The size of a baby chickadee is about 2 to 3 inches in length. There are no feathers or wings present at that time. The average weight of a baby chickadee is 5 to 10 grams. Baby chickadees, after leaving the nest, look for other birds to gather into small flocks.

Baby chickadees along with their parents are mostly found in mixed deciduous and in evergreen forests.

Insects and bugs

Baby chickadees love to eat insects and bugs. Parent chickadees catch the insects and feed them to the babies. Baby chickadees eat earthworms, mealworms, spiders, flies, caterpillars, and insects. Baby chickadees also eat ants, maggots, moths, spanworms, and many other insects. They feed on different wasps and the insects which a parent chickadee can catch.

For the first few days, male chickadees bring the food. They fed the babies several times an hour during daylight. After 12 or 13 days, both parents bring the food and feed their young ones. 

Fruits and seeds

Baby chickadees also feed on fruits and seeds occasionally. Chickadees often visit the backyards of the houses and collect seeds and suet from there. Baby chickadees can eat sunflower seeds and safflower seeds. Baby chickadees will eat grass seeds and grains. Baby chickadees eat fruits like berries, bananas in small amounts, pears, and apples. 

In captivity, baby chickadees can eat boiled egg yolk, rice cereal, moist dog or cat food, and insects like worms and caterpillars.
