Changing the battery in your remote-control key fob may be an issue if you drive a Nissan Altima from model years 2013 to 2015. The battery replacement is all you’ll have to get your key fob functioning again. A dead watch battery can be replaced using a thumb-sized cell, which you might already be familiar with. However, we suggest consulting your user manual to learn which battery was supplied by the manufacturer in the first place. To open the key fob’s two plastic halves, use a small flathead screwdriver roughly the size of a pair of spectacles.

To replace the key fob battery on a 2015 Nissan Altima correctly, follow these steps:

1. The buttons on the key fob should be pointing down on a table.

You’ll find a small slider tab if you remove the metal ignition key. To remove the metal ignition key, press the tab on the key fob’s outer edge all the way out. To remove the key, just pull the key fob’s bottom edge downward. Keep an eye out for the emergency key and store it safely!

2. Pull apart the fob

Peek into the old emergency key slot with the key fob buttons pointing up. The plastic bottom border of the fob has two notches. Pry apart the fob’s two halves by gently inserting your flat screwdriver into one of the slots. If it remains to be an issue, move up a notch. Take off the fob’s top part and set it aside.

3. Replace the battery

Remove the top part of the device and you should be able to see the battery installed within. With your screwdriver, gently pry it out, being careful not to damage the electronic components in the process. Place the new battery in the device, with the positive terminal facing out and the negative terminal facing in.

4. Assemble the keyfob once more.

Assemble the key fob by aligning the front and back halves and gently pressing them together. Re-insert the metal starter key till it pops firmly into position in the slot.
