This product (WD-40) is meant to remove the bindings that have established between rust and the metal surface to which it has fastened by accessing the porous layer of rust and employing its lubricating properties to loosen the bonds that have formed amongst rust and the metal surface to which it has adhered. Spraying it on the rusted surface, leaving it to sit for around ten minutes, and then leaving it to go to action on the surface corrosion is all that is required to eliminate surface rust. On unpainted surfaces, it can be simply removed with a light abrasive after it has been loosening up. By covering the surface while you work on the rust, you can prevent further damage to the paint from occurring. Furthermore, because WD-40 also has corrosion-prevention properties, it provides excellent temporary rust protection.
There are a handful of things to keep in mind. Try to do all of the work you are about to undertake indoors, such as in your garage, for starters. The second step is to choose a day when there is little wind and the weather is pleasant.
For small rust stains, an aerosol or liquid rust remover will be required. Use the appropriate tape to conceal the rusty area. It is recommended to wrap the region with a few inches of tape. Simply follow the rust remover’s directions. Allow a few moments for it to sit before wiping it clean with a clean rag. Emery paper is used to remove the remaining corrosion. Clean with soap that dissolves grease and wax. Following cleaning, allow it to dry naturally. On the afflicted area, spray some primer. A light to medium coating should be sufficient; however three coats should be sprayed. Allow time for it to dry for an hour.
