How long does it take for a Roomba to charge?

I know this is a pretty out-there question but I’m really curious. So one of my roommates decided to get a Roomba because his room was always messy. It seems like it’s starting to work, he comes back from class and the place is cleaned up. Considering the amount of traffic his room has it’s quite impressive that he can have it clean before he gets back. I didn’t think anything of it until the Roomba came into my room and started bumping into things. It would stop after a short time then go onto another area. I knew something was up with this so I tore it apart and found a LiPo battery in there!

So I was wondering how long does it take to charge. And how much work can it do on a single charge?

iRobot, the company that creates Roombas, provides an explanation for their battery charging times. They have clarified that it can only take 2 hours to charge. However, it may take longer depending on what the Roomba is doing. For instance, say you are constantly keeping up with your Roomba as it cleans your home. After an hour or two of cleaning, you could be making it go back to its dock to charge for another hour or so before it continues its work.

It’s really difficult to tell how long it takes for each individual Roomba to charge. Their design is not the same, so their battery capacities are different too.

In conclusion, it’s not a good idea to assume that every Roomba is going to charge for 2 hours. You may need to make your Roomba charge for longer than the proposed amount of time before you can use it again. Also, keep in mind, you shouldn’t leave your Roomba alone and unsupervised while it charges after taking it out of the box.
