Where do opossum sleep? - Kylon Powell

October 2022 · 2 minute read

Opossums sleep in trees or on the ground where they dig a hole. A whole family of opossums might sleep together in one big hole. In hot weather, the opossum will find a cool place to sleep like in a rock crevice, cave, or under an overhanging ledge. They curl into a ball and tuck their naked tails between their hind legs for warmth. The opossum is nocturnal animals so they aren’t active at night when it’s cool. During the day look for them curled up high off the ground, such as in a tree or on top of a fence post.

What is opossum favorite food?

Opossum’s favorite food is just like any other animal- fruits and vegetables. They have a particular fondness for strawberries, apples, and corn. Are possums mean?

Most people think that possums are mean little creatures because they hiss, growl, and try to scare you away from them. Although possums can look a little scary, they are actually harmless and they mean no harm.

How old do opossums live?

In a nutshell, they live as long as they can. It takes an opossum’s body at least three years to reach full maturity, and older individuals appear to survive just as well as their younger counterparts, said the study’s lead author. It would be uneconomical for humans to wait that long to find out whether obesity is fatal. But for the opossum, especially for males, it appears that fat can be a good thing over the long haul.
