Mystery snails, also known as apple snail, happen to be South American species. These are species that are great to leave on plants provided there is a good food source.

Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing AroundMystery snails do have a wide source, so it’s important you know what they eat and do not eat.
In this post, we will be walking you through all of that and more.
Animals and Insects
As mentioned earlier, mystery snails eat plants, dead plants, leftovers food, algae, green spot algae, green algae, hair algae, dead fish, almond leaves, brine shrimp, blood-warm, biofilms, BBA, beard algae, and celery. Also, mystery snails eat duckweed, dead shrimp, dead mystery snails, other fish’s eggs and eggshell, fish food and flakes, fish waste, fungus, lettuce, and moss balls. Also, mystery snails eat nerite snails only if they are dead though.
Mystery snails eat poop, but They don’t do it as a primary food source, or anything, but, if they come across some poop with undigested nutrients in it, they will certainly chow down. But mystery snails also eat planaria, peas, dead snails, and worms.
Fruits And Vegetables
Other than algae and biofilm, mystery snails also eat fish/invertebrate pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini, kale, spinach, or cucumber. And you can feed lots of different fruits to your mystery snail. Grapes, melon, pumpkin, cucumber, apples, and pears hold up well in your aquarium and are easy for your snails to eat.
What don’t Mystery snail eat?
For the most part, some mystery snails don’t eat algae. They need to be fed. They will eat some leftovers in the tank, but you should feed them.
Conclusion
Mystery snails are one of my favorite freshwater creatures. They also help make your tank cleaner by snacking on algae throughout the day
