What Does A Panther Sound Like?

January 2023 · 3 minute read

A panther is a large American wild cat with a plain tawny to greyish coat, found from Canada to Patagonia; a puma. You might be confused if you are asked to describe the sound of a panther. Panthers are so quiet that they are considered “silent stalkers.” They aren’t even able to purr like most cats. That’s because panthers, including leopards and cougars, do not have the same voice box as domestic cats. However, panthers do make a few distinct sounds that can help them communicate with each other.

Despite their fearsome reputation, panthers are incredibly silent animals. They don’t make any sounds at all and are very hard to hear because of this. This is why you might not know if you’re looking at one until it’s too late.

They make low-pitched growls.

When you want to make a low-pitched growl, roll your tongue around the inside of your mouth. This will cause vibrations in the nasal cavity that can be heard as a low-pitched sound.

They also make a sound that can be described as a high-pitched scream.

You may have heard the call of a panther before, but, likely, you wouldn’t have recognized it. This particular sound is described as a high-pitched scream, and it can be deafening and lasts for many seconds at a time.

Panthers make this noise for several reasons: aggression, fear, pain, and submission. If you ever hear one of these screams from a distance that is too close for comfort (or if you’re trying to sleep at night), then it could mean one of two things: either two panthers are fighting nearby or someone has wandered too close to their territory and set off an alarm system!

It’s *very* loud.

The sound of a panther is *very* loud. It’s a high-pitched screech that can be heard from long distances, from ground level to the sky. When you’re walking through the forest, and you hear this noise in the distance, it’s not just some bird or squirrel making an annoying noise. It’s probably one of these big cats hunting for food.

If you’re ever out camping or hiking in an area where panthers live, avoid being alone at night (especially around dusk) since they are most active during those hours. The best way to prevent getting attacked by these predators is not to attract their attention in the first place: keep your campfire small and make sure it’s completely extinguished before going to sleep each night; don’t leave any food unattended; make plenty of noise as you walk so they know you’re coming; if possible use bright lights like flashlights instead of matches (or even better yet don’t go outside at all).

Panthers only communicate in low-pitched growls and high-pitched screams.

Panthers, in general, are very silent animals. The only sounds they make are low-pitched growls and high-pitched screams. The scream is so loud that it can be heard up to 15 miles away!

Conclusion

So now you know what a panther sounds like.
